Healthy food for dogs and cats, nutritious foods for pets
Why is meat not listed as the primary ingredient?
In the Trainer® Natural Line, the use of fresh meat leads to the use of more separate protein sources (fresh meat +dehydrated meat).
For example, the type of food labelling found on the new Trainer Natural (Maxi Size) Line reads as follows:
Ingredients
Maize, fresh chicken and turkey meat, rice, dehydrated chicken and turkey meat, dehydrated pork, pork lard, linseed, beet pulp, maize oil, dehydrated fish powder, chicory extract, F.O.S. (Fructo-oligosaccharides), brewer's yeast, pea fibre, vitamins and minerals, bioflavonoids, Green – lipped mussel, (Perna canaliculus), Boswellia serrata, bitter orange, (Citrus aurantium) salt, choline chloride, methionine, L-carnitine, Ginseng, Vitamin E. Contains Inulin.
It contains maize as the primary ingredient. This means that the food is “structured” to satisfy the energy requirements of an adult dog and that the proteinic quota is therefore proportional to its needs. The protein sources are both different and diversified amongst themselves (fresh meat / dehydrated meat), and if they were counted together, would definitely be listed as the primary ingredient in the “ per category “ classification in the form of “ meat derivatives “. However this is not represented in this way in order to show an accurate and transparent reading of the label.
In the formulas of the Trainer® Fitness Line, meat is not the primary ingredient because a restriction diet must, first of all, avoid an excess of protein.
If meat (as a protein source) was the primary ingredient, it would be impossible to retain its nutritional value and it would automatically be in excess.
